In an interview with The Maxim Magazine, Rousey says she feels Bern, and will proceed with supporting the Vermont Senator:
I’m voting for Bernie Sanders because he doesn’t take any corporate money. I don’t think politicians should be allowed to take money for their campaigns from outside interests.
However, should Sanders lose in the primary elections, Rousey will not be throwing her support behind Hillary Clinton, and would instead vote for a third-party candidate like she did in 2012, when she supported Rosanne Barr.
“If he doesn’t win against Hillary, then I’ll probably vote for a third party again. To be honest, in 2012 I was against both candidates, and so I picked any third party because I thought if more people voted for third parties then they would have to take third parties seriously.”
However, in 2012, third party candidates (6 major in total) received, collectively, only 1.55 percent of the vote.
Rousey become yet another prolific celebrity to endorsed Sanders. Rousey’s first pick follows after Rosanne Barr, who endorsed Sanders earlier this year. Other celebrities include John Cusack, Willie Nelson, Seth McFarlane, Danny DeVito, Mia Farrow, Daryl Hannah, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Juliette Lewis, Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, and John C. Reilly, just to name a few.
Hopefully if Sanders doesn’t win the nomination, Rousey can throw her feminist message behind Clinton, and help lead the Democrats to the White House for the third time in a row. But until the primaries end, we can thank Rousey for supporting a Democrat for the presidency.
